Offices to contact before and after the removal

The institutions to inform before and after the house moving, the bills to transfer

In many countries, you can demand or vary many of these services by self-certification; to do this, you need a valid identity document. So remember to always carry it with you, when you go to one of these offices.

Please, note that the followings are general indications that can depend by the country.

Water
Inform them at least 3 weeks in advance. If you live in a jointly owned block of flats, usually you don't have to do any contract cancellation because the water supply is common.
For private contracts, go to the cityhall and fill in the suitable form. You have to cancel the old contract as long as the new owner doesn't take over within 60 days.

Registry office
You must register your change of residence even if you only change the street number.

Gas
Inform them at least 3 weeks in advance. If the old owner of the new home already has a contract, you must present his cancellation. In case of a new contract, it may be useful to present another contract of another service of the new home.

Electricity
Inform the supplier about 3 weeks in advance; also in this case you can start a new contract or take over the existing contract.

Doctor
You have to go to your sanitary agency and choose a doctor according to the availability; they will assign you one immediately. You need your sanitary booklet.

Rubbish
You have to register in the new city; to do this, you have to go to the suitable office in the cityhall. You need the number of rooms in the new house, the surface including garages, cellars, lofts and porches. Remember to communicate the cancellation to the old town.

Taxes
You must go to the tax office or send them a registered letter; the variation will be notified to you within 60 days.

Telephone
Inform the company a month before moving. The methods of change are not always the same, depending on the companies.

Depending on the services you have subscribed to, you may have to change:

• newspapers subscriptions
• banks
• television subscription fees
• insurance companies
• jointly owned block of flats
• employer
• schools, nurseries
• post
• mobile phone

Services automatically updated when renewed:

• identity card
• job booklet
• driving licence
• passport
• weapons licence
• electoral office
• military office
